2010 Plans #1 - 147 Miles!

Given that I was pretty tired after 7 miles cycling last weekend it seems a bold move to attempt to step up 147 but that's exactly what I have planned for later this year!

Some time ago I purchased the high level map and route information and promised myself I would make it happen, as with most things involving exercise it got put to the bottom of the list. I've not picked a long weekend to undertake this endeavour yet but I intend to firm up the plans over the next couple of months with a view to doing the ride mid/end of summer.. assuming we ever have one :)

Coast to Coast information

More details to follow just as soon as I’ve got it planned out, it’s more than likely I'll be riding solo so I have to work out where to have the oxygen tanks stashed along the route.

Next weekend.

Met up with Will for lunch today, He claims to be getting his bike out of the garage (It's been hiding under the same pizza boxes as mine) in preparation for the ride this weekend! This is good news as its always good to have someone to push with ;-)

Roll on the weekend and fingers crossed the rain gods decide to give me a break!

They didn’t win!

Well its been a long time since I posted, I'll make no excuses I just took some time off to do other things, however that was then and this is now!

I got the bike out this morning and headed off to my spiritual home (The hills around Rivington) upon arriving I couldn’t noticing that it was raining cats and dogs and the melted snow was still gushing down the reservoir overflow’s.

The ride was pretty uneventful for the first 2/3’s as it is fairly even going and the challenge comes toward the end of the ride, I was even starting to believe that I wasn’t as unfit as I imagined! Alas it wasn’t to last and I was soon forced to push up hill for half a mile.

All in it was a good run and I'm glad I got off my ass and made an effort. Roll on next weekend.

GPS didn’t start working till half way around the ride but hey ho.

Time for an update :-)

Well.. ok so I have been slacking with the posts :-), truth of the matter is I have done a couple of rides but they sun came out and I've spent more time on this:

either way the rain is back now so i'll get the cycle out again and see where it leads me, I will also back post the last couple of rides I have done with the highlight being a nice loop in Derbyshire.

Epic ride!...Not.

An easy ride this weekend :-( We had planned to complete the full Rivington loop but instead Will's bike decided to play up and not change gears or if it felt really nasty it locked the drive chain solid whilst cycling.

Once it became clear we couldn't fix it on the ride we just chopped the route down to a quick look and limped back to the car.

On a positive note I received these this week:

White Peak Mountain Biking, CD-ROM
Dark Peak Mountain Biking, CD-ROM

I got both on CD so I can print the routes easily and I highly recommend www.bikemaps.co.uk as they delivered the next day! Excellent service.

Look out for some peak district ride reports coming soon!
